Former Who’s the Boss? star Danny Pintauro, who has recently come out as HIV-positive, opened up about his experiences with using meth and what he believes are some of the biggest contributors to the spread of HIV today, in an interview with HIV Equal
an online magazine and organization that works to end HIV stigma.
Pintauro talked about what he hopes to accomplish with his revelations, “I don’t want to be the poster child. I want to be the example of what not to be and what not to do, and what happens even when you go down the just slightest of dark roads,” said Pintauro. “The darker the road, the bigger the problem.”
When discussing his former meth addiction, Pintauro talked about what he finds so troubling about the state of drug use in the gay community.
“In my experience with Grindr and all of those sites, I can go on there right now and look at the people in this area and I can tell you the ones who are either doing, have done, or want to do meth,” he said.
Pintauro noted his frustration with the role of drug use in sex culture.
“This is when I’m going to piss a lot of people off,” he said. “Google ‘meth’ and ‘porn.’ The first thing you are going to find on a site called Porn Hub is a guy shooting up crystal meth on camera and then proceeding to have sex with another guy. That makes me so angry, like, that makes me so angry that nobody is doing anything about that.”
Pintauro went to discuss his stance on PrEP, his journey with HIV treatment, and the importance of being able to say that his viral load is undetectable. Check out the rest of this revealing interview in the video below, and get to know Pintauro in his new role as an HIV activist.
