Located just minutes away from gay Wilton Manors’ Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa is Bona Cafe Italian Restaurant.  I recently visited Bona Cafe for lunch and I have to say, I wasn’t all that impressed.

I ordered the house salad with house dressing and bowl of minestrone soup. This restaurant prides themselves on their homemade cooking so I was super excited to try everything out.  I will tell you, I didn’t want to eat too heavy since it was lunch but they have all of your basic Italian dishes and many dishes that would suit the dietary needs of a vegetarian (myself included).

The salad was JUST okay.  It had iceberg lettuce, a few tomato slices, onion and one cucumber slice (yes I said one).  The soup was mediocre at best.  It came out kind of warm, even though the bowl was super hot and it was steaming.  Lesson here: Stop microwaving your soup.

With a diet coke my bill came to $12.35.  Overall, I wouldn’t rush back to eat here again.  If a friend of mine suggested we eat here I wouldn’t put up a fight, but it definitely wouldn’t be my first choice.  I think for a day where you’re looking to have a quality lunch of soup and a salad you’re better off going to Humpy’s Pizza down the road and trying some of their homemade gaspacho. MMMMmmmmmmm.
