Cyclists from all across Florida are geared up and ready to ride for a huge special event – SMART Ride 2010, a two day event to raise money for HIV and AIDS charities. Smart Ride is a grueling long-distance bike ride covering a total of 165 miles, beginning in Miami and ending in Key West. Proceeds for the event are raised by riders who obtain sponsors on a per-mile or flat rate donation basis.

The registration fee is $85 per rider and a committed effort to raise a minimum of $1,250 in funding for their journey to Key West. Since its inception in 2003, SMART Ride has raised more than $2.2 million towards charities, a truly incredible contribution to a wonderful cause.

There are multiple ways to become involved with SMART Ride 2010 other than riding. Those who may not be up to the strenuous ride can surely assist in other ways by sponsoring a rider, as a crew member or a general volunteer. Over 500 riders have already registered this year and they are hoping to reach $500,000 in donations after receiving grants from partners who will match each dollar raised.

With the majority of the riders having never taken a 165 mile ride, it’s a wonderful thing to see so many people committed to the challenge, especially for charity. If you can’t be involved, please come out and show your support to the riders and volunteers of this year’s event. For more information, please visit
